About Mary Burns-Coral

Nursing Faculty for 24 years. Have worked in acute care facilities and home health and hospice for 15-20 years too. An RN for 44 years.

Was Department Chair of Nursing for WCC from May 2015 to May 2018. Spear-headed a total nursing curriculum change to a concept-based curriculum and reduced credits by nine credits for the total program. Passed National Accreditation by ACEN in February of 2016 and again for the new curriculum in April of 2018. Assisted in developing an EMU-WCC Collaborative nursing program in Fall of 2015 where 32 EMU students yearly could earn their Associate Degree in Nursing and BSN in three years after meeting EMU admission requirements. Was approved for an LPN to RN program in May of 2018 by the Michigan Board of Nursing to accept up to 24 students per year. Received the National League of Nursing Center of Excellence Award for our nursing program in July of 2018.

Sabbatical from January 2019 to May 2019 working on implementing clinical judgment into our new concept-based curriculum along with developing NextGen practice questions in preparation for the NCLEX-RN changing in 2022 for our program.
Wrote an OER for Pharmacology and using it in our Pharmacology course.
Presenting at OADN National Conference in Louisville, Ky on OER's in Nursing to decrease the fiscal burden for nursing students in November of 2019 and at TRENDS Conference in Grand Rapids, MI in October of 2019
