About Jon Haupt

Lieutenant, Farmington Hills Police Department, Retired

I am an experienced law enforcement professional with 27 years of service with the Farmington Hills Police Department. I retired from FHPD in December 2019 to begin a full-time career in education and public service training. Farmington Hills is a diverse metropolitan Detroit community of over 80,000 residents located in Oakland County, Michigan. The Farmington Hills Police Department is considered one of the finest full-service law enforcement agencies in Michigan and is recognized for its long line of state, national, and professional group awards it has garnered for outstanding delivery of police services.

I was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in July 2014 and was responsible for commanding the daily operations of a uniformed patrol shift. In addition, I spent two years assigned to the Administrative Bureau where he was responsible for training, Crime Prevention, Communications/Dispatch, Records, and personnel hiring. Prior to 2014, I served 15years in the Investigative Division as a detective, and then as a Detective Sergeant. As a Detective, I specialized in domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and fire investigations. From 2007 to 2014, I supervised the investigative unit responsible for those specialties. In 2012, I helped create and co-chair the Farmington Hills High Risk Domestic Violence Response Team, a multi-disciplinary group dedicated to the identification of high risk domestic violence cases and the creation of a coordinated, community response, including prevention and community education.

I am currently Assistant Director (Operations) of Public Service Training at Washtenaw Community College where I am responsible for the effective expansion, promotion, and coordination of law enforcement in-service training at the college and throughout the Southeastern Michigan region. In addition to my work here at WCC, I am Adjunct Assistant Professor at Madonna University, a Domestic Violence instructor for the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, and an instructor at the Oakland and Wayne County Regional Police Academies. I am the co-chair of the Oakland County Coordinating Council against Domestic Violence, a multi-sector community response taskforce aimed at developing systems-wide prevention, response, and education on domestic violence. I also volunteer as a member of the Oakland County Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team.

I have a Master of Science degree in Technology Studies with concentrations in Homeland Security and Emergency Management from Eastern Michigan University. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University in Police Administration and Communications and an Associate in Arts degree from Schoolcraft College. Additionally, I am a 2011 graduate of the Center for Regional and National Security’s School of Police Staff and Command.
