About Kathy Stewart
I serve as the Coach for the REACH Program here at WCC.
Since 2015, REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) was made possible
by a grant from the State of Michigan designed to support students with experience
in foster care.
WCC is such a special place to me, it's where I got my start! As a proud WCC grad, and someone who grew up in foster care, I feel incredibly blessed to have this role supporting the educational and life goals of our students .
I yearned to go to college, but life circumstances and some of the same hurdles many of you and our students face, delayed my start to college. But I finally got here, and it became one of the best decisions of my life! The journey was long, and some days felt really hard, but just like you, I kept going. As they say: 'anything worthwhile in life is never easy, but it's worth it-- that is so true!
WCC well prepared me in furthering my educational goals. I went on to earn my masters degree in social work from Eastern Michigan University and also worked locally supporting youth and families at Community Mental Health. In addition to my role as the REACH Coach , I also serve as a part-time therapist at Transformational Choices.
It's been incredibly rewarding to grow the REACH Program and work closely with students who inspire me every single day through their resiliency and unique backgrounds – they also keep me current in pop culture! In my free time I love being in the outdoors, gardening and cooking with family.
