Getting Started in the Writing Center

If you’re enrolled in one of the following courses—ENG 050/051, ENG 090/091,ENG 100, ENG 111, or ESL 168—you have a required Writing Center component that will consist of a series of 10 writing assignments that will count as 25% of your final grade in your writing course.

Where to Find Assignments

  1. Your Writing Center assignments (with instructions) will be on your course Blackboard site.
  2. You can work ahead as fast as you want, but not as slow as you want.
  3. Your Writing Center assignments are graded Pass/Resubmit and count as 25% of your final grade in your writing course. Your instructor will get frequent updates on your progress.
  4. Unless you are enrolled in a D section (see above), your Writing Center assignments will be checked by a Writing Center staff member, not your classroom instructor.
  5. Our job in the Writing Center is to help you pass all your Writing Center assignments. If you meet or beat your deadline dates and work with us, you should pass all the assignments.
  6. Your Writing Center assignment deadline dates are printed in this guide.
  7. We cannot accept late Writing Center assignments. If you have a late assignment ,contact your classroom instructor.
  8. We at the Writing Center are committed to providing friendly, compassionate, and knowledgeable support that will help you become a better writer.
  9. We are happy to help you with any type of writing: for school, for work, or for personal use.
  10. If you cannot make it to the on-campus Writing Center, you can visit the Virtual Writing Center on Zoom. Our staffing in the Virtual Writing Center is thinner than it is in the on-campus Writing Center, so wait times might be long, and we cannot remain open after hours.
