Dave’s ESL Cafe : Grammar lessons, idioms, phrasal verbs, quizzes, and student forums. “The Internet’s meeting place for ESL/EFL teachers and students from around the world.”

English as a Second Language : Addresses areas relevant to learning the English language.  This includes, but is not limited to, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, newspapers, magazines, business English, ESP, pronunciation, quizzes, idioms, methods, games, and dictionaries.

English-at-home : Covers a wide range of tools for learning English as a second language. It includes elements like grammar practice, vocabulary games, pronunciation tools, and reading practice. This site does not include video or audio tutorials like other sites do. But, for a good theoretical background and beginning practice, “English-at-home” provides several useful exercises and readings.

English, baby! : Free English lessons, grammar, chat rooms to help people from different countries communicate and better understand each other.

Forvo Pronunciation : Guide to improve pronunciation. It utilizes real voice recordings of people from around the world speaking individual words. This is a useful tool for hearing a wide range of accents.

Howjsay : Simple pronunciation tool for individual words. This website covers the pronunciation of individual words; there are recordings of real voices, not text-to-speech synthesis, so the recordings are a very natural and fluid pronunciation style that can be found in the real world.

Pronuncian : English pronunciation website. There are lessons on everything from syllabic stressing to pitch training and vowel sounds. This site is particularly good at teaching linking sounds with a few short readings and several practice tutorials. It includes many video and audio tutorials and several follow-up podcasts and links to other websites with similar tools. This is a very useful and free tool that can help ESL students with their pronunciation.

Randall’s ESL Cyber Listening Lab : Resource for ESL learners to improve listening comprehension.  This website gives students the opportunity to listen to everyday conversations with adult and child voices and take quizzes on them. It also contains study guides, lists, study handouts, vocabulary quizzes, and conversation videos.
