General Campus-Wide Training: The MINIMUM number of hours to be completed under this requirement is 8 hours. The HR Essential Training will count as 4 hours of completed training; it may take you less than or more than 4 hours depending on your familiarity with the material presented. If you choose to complete more than 2 hours each of Diversity or Civility Training and your supervisor approves, then this is okay. These additional hours (if all unique courses), can count towards the TOTAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENT of 16 hours. This will be up to your supervisor to decide.

Workplace Effectiveness: The MINIMUM number of hours to be completed under this requirement is 8 hours. If your supervisor approves, you may earn PD hours in this category, above and beyond the minimum of 8 hours (if all unique courses). This requirement category includes topics such as: Information Technology, Communication and Collaboration, Professionalism and Productivity, Wellness*(2 hours MAXIMUM of Wellness activities will count towards your Workplace Effectiveness Requirement), outside conferences/training, credit or non-credit classes, Lynda.com courses, etc.

Other Professional Development: With your supervisor's permission, please feel free to register for and attend other sessions that do not count towards your PD Requirements. We have put together a wide array of courses that encompass: Sustainability, Building Communities/Connections, and other special events/activities. If attended, these events will appear in your PD Plan under the Other Professional Development Category in the Kalpa system.

Recommendations for All OPT Childcare Professionals (CCP): Childcare Professionals have different requirements set by the State. The State of Michigan Department of Human Services Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing outlines the following professional development requirements for all program directors, site supervisors, and caregivers. (The CCP will use a tracking form provided by the State of Michigan).

All full-time Professional Instructors shall be contracted to provide service to the College for 158 reporting days. In addition, all fulltime professional instructors will be required to complete 16 hours of professional development on an annual basis (July 1st - June 30th). The annual professional development requirements will involve four areas of focus: (1) Teaching; (2) Leadership; (3) Workplace Effectiveness; and (4) Diversity, Equity and lnclusion (at least 2 hours). The professional development offerings will be provided through the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC).
